It is
believed that HY therapy was first invented by a royal doctor in ancient China
thousands of years ago. It was mainly performed on the Emperor so the secret
recipe was limited only to the family of the royal doctor. It is also a much
more difficult technique to be mastered compared to other traditional
moxibustion and acupuncture.
Because of these 2 reasons, HY therapy was not
well known by the ordinary Chinese medical doctor. Chinese medicine doctor: Dr
Hon learnt HY therapy from his grandfather. It is believed his ancestors were
royal doctors in the palace. Dr Hon registered the patent of HY therapy in 2010
in China/USA under the combined names of himself and his wife.
The official
recorded name of wheat type moxibustion is therefore called Hon Yee therapy (HY
therapy).
Processes of HY Therapy
Like most
other Chinese medical therapies, a consultation is carried out first. This will
include checking the appearance of the tongue and pulse of the patient as well
as pain assessment by palpating the affected area.
After consultation and examination,
the doctor will begin HY therapy by applying the premixed herbal medicine paste
to the relevant acupuncture points with a cotton bud. The doctor will then form
the dried wormwoods into a small wheat grain-sized pellet and place this on the
paste. The doctor will ignite the pellet using an incense stick and then
immediately snuff out the ember with his/her finger.
Once this is performed on
all relevant acupuncture points, the treatment is complete. Patient can wash
away any residual wormwood after 20 minutes. There is no (or very minimal) pain
in the whole treatment process.
